Now is a great time to enroll in fall classes! Students who enroll in 12 credits or more by July 1, 2020, will receive a $702 credit on their student account! If you’re planning to live in student housing, complete the housing application and course registration processes by July 1, 2020, and receive an additional $1,000 credit for housing costs.
Adult Education Coordinator Dr. Teresa Barton is a part of the Population Health Committee (PHC) for Valdez. This committee works to: “provide initiatives that focus on the well-being of the entire community.”
Due to institutional changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Prince William Sound College (PWSC) recently offered a modified course delivery of the popular National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Instructor Certification program. This course, offered for teachers across Alaska, provides teachers with training they can use to help their students achieve NCCER Core curriculum certification while in high school.
As 62 year-old Sheila Hurst knows, you are never too old to receive an education. Sheila earned her GED in October of 2019, and she gives much of the credit to PWSC's adult education instructors Joey Eastman and Karolina Brewster. With her GED in hand, Hurst is took her first college class this spring, Introduction to Women and Gender Studies.
Ryan Belnap is the assistant to the director at PWSC and his duties are diverse. He oversees the Health and Fitness Center, information technology, student government, has some responsibilities in human resources, and teaches a civic engagement course.
As with many stories in the time of Covid-19, the story of PWSC residence life has evolved and changed at lightning speed.
Prince William Sound College will continue its popular "for Teachers" courses online. Course costs have been reduced to $119 for 3 500-level UAA credits.
This semester PWSC professor Dr. Dennis Humphrey is teaching a course on Alaska Native literature. As part of completing their degree requirements, students need an Alaska themed course, and Dr. Humphrey saw offering a course on Alaska Native literature as a chance to help students fulfill that requirement and learn more about Alaska Native literature.
William Deaton is a dual-credit student attending PWSC through the Cordova Extension Site. He is a motivated young man who was accepted into the Senate Page Program and worked in Senator Lisa Murkowski’s office.
Each year, PWSC joins the national conversation in honoring April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Action Month (#SAAM2020).
