Valdez Theatre Conference Leaders Honored at UAA Mainstage

On Monday, September 22, Dawson Moore, the Valdez Theatre Conference Coordinator, and Ryan Buen, the Conference's Play Lab Coordinator, were honored on the UAA Mainstage alongside 11 other graduates of the UAA Theatre and Dance program. This recognition celebrated the department's ongoing positive influence on the people and theatre of Alaska. Each honoree received one of eight prints featuring famous actors that had hung in the Department of UAA Theatre & Dance for years before the program was discontinued in 2018.
Other honorees included Schatzie Schaefers, co-coordinator of the Valdez Theatre Fringe, as well as Erin Dagon Mitchell, Shane Mitchell, and Wayne Mitchell from TBA Theatre, among others. The prints were presented by the program’s founder, Michael Hood, and the department’s sole current professor, Dan Anteau. Although there is currently no degree track available, the program has recently expanded its offerings and experienced strong enrollments, sparking hope for its revival.
