Copper Basin Field Trip = Career Connections in Action
by V. Heisser |
Our Outdoor Leadership students just returned from an incredible field trip to the
Copper Basin, where they met with professionals from the Bureau of Land Management
- Glennallen Field Office, Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, Alaska
Department of Fish and Game, and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve.
These trips give students firsthand exposure to careers in outdoor education, recreation,
natural resources, and other related fields. From wildfire management to wildlife
biology and land stewardship, they explore the many paths available in Alaska’s outdoor
sector—building skills, confidence, and valuable connections.
Shout out to Ryan Chalker, a program grad now working with the BLM—proof that these
experiences open real doors!
Huge thanks to the amazing staff who shared their time and expertise:
Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection: Jenny Moser
Bureau of Land Management – Glennallen Field Office: Cory Larson, Ryan Chalker
Alaska Department of Fish and Game: Scott Maclean, Heidi Hatcher
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve: Diane Ellsworth, Russ Scibner
You're helping shape Alaska’s future outdoor workforce—and we appreciate you!
