Employee spotlight: Cody Barlow

by Vicki Heisser  |

We’re excited to welcome Cody Barlow to our college team as our newest Maintenance IV! Originally from Washington State, Cody now calls Alaska home. His journey into the world of mechanics and maintenance began early in life, working alongside his father at Oklahoma Steel Wire as a facilities maintenance welder. That hands-on experience sparked a lifelong passion for working with tools, problem-solving, and building things that last.

Cody’s career path has been both diverse and impressive. After his time in the steel industry, he moved to Alaska to work for Harris Sand and Gravel, gaining valuable experience in heavy equipment and construction. When the company was sold, Cody looked for an opportunity where he could continue to apply his wide-ranging skills—and we’re fortunate he found his way here.

In addition to his strong background in welding and construction, Cody has also served his community in a variety of roles, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), firefighter, and corrections officer. His commitment to helping others and his adaptability across multiple fields speak to both his work ethic and character.

Outside of work, Cody enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He has a passion for writing music and playing the guitar, often stating, "Without music, life would be dull." Cody and his wife are proud parents of a young daughter. Family is very important to him, and his grounded, family-oriented approach is evident in his steady and reliable work style.

When asked what he enjoys most about maintenance, Cody shared that he loves the process of looking at a project, understanding how everything fits together, and bringing it to life through careful planning and craftsmanship. His attention to detail, organization, and hands-on expertise make him a great addition to our facilities team.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Cody, whose skills, experience, and positive attitude are sure to make a lasting impact on our college community!
