Forestry Students Gain Hands-On Career Insights

by V. Heisser  |

Our Introduction to Forestry students, part of the Natural Resources Technician program, recently traveled to Glennallen, Alaska, to visit the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection and Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve.

The trip provided students with the opportunity to meet professionals in forestry, land management, and conservation, and to explore career paths related to their studies. They also learned about the boreal forest, the plants and animals that live in this harsh environment, permafrost, and how our changing climate has impacted this biome. Experiences like this underscore the value of our community partnerships, which provide students with incredible opportunities to connect with experts in their field. Through these connections, we provide an education that equips students with the skills and perspective needed for their future careers.

A big thank-you to Jenny Moser, Josh Sutherland, Tommy Maudin, and William "Dub" Evans from the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, as well as Chelsea Hernandez and Diane Ellsworth at Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve, for taking the time to meet with our students. Your support is greatly appreciated!
