Highlights from NPS intern Sarah King
July has been a busy month for outdoor leadership student Sarah King. She has spent her summer as an intern at Wrangell St. Elias National Park.
Financial Aid Tips and Advising
Cherise Beatus is the financial aid coordinator for Prince William Sound College. Her mission is to help students go into as little debt as possible while financing their education.
PWSC presents the Valdez Theatre Conference
The 28th Annual Valdez Theatre Conference will take place June 19-26. Last year presented a limited slate of online activities; this year will include a number of live events, though the participants and scope of work will be limited to provide a safe experience.

Indigenous Knowledge - A professional development course for Alaskan educators
In Alaska, the majority of the teachers come from outside the state and many are unfamiliar with Alaskan culture and Alaskan Native peoples. PWSC has created a class that addresses diversity, inclusiveness, and student experience to help educators learn more about the populations they serve. The course is a standards-based professional development course taught by the Department of Education and Early Development’s Dr. Bjorn Wolter with Dr. Beth Ginondidoy Leonard, research professor of Indigenous Studies at Alaska Pacific University (APU).

Meet the students: David Christensen
When asked about how he ended up in Valdez, Alaska, outdoor leadership student David Christensen quickly replied, “I am here because of my wife, Asia. If it weren’t for her, I would not have been able to come.” For Christensen, coming to Alaska was contingent upon his wife agreeing to make the move from California.
A journey towards better health
George Keeney is on a personal journey towards better health, and he is doing it with the guidance and support from Erin Hickok, PWSC’s Health and Fitness Coordinator. George’s motivation is his desire to: “be physically fit for next fall’s moose hunt.
