Originally from Cooper Landing on the Kenai Peninsula, Monica Pearson is now attending PWSC as a dual enrollment student and living in on-campus housing. Pearson is enrolled in PWSC's Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Marine Services Technology.

Student spotlight: Joseph Williams

Joseph Williams has returned to school as a full-time student after a 27-year gap in his education. Joseph is currently enrolled in the OEC Natural Resources Technician program, which also provides credits toward his associate degree in general studies. He aims to become the first person in his family to earn a college degree.

Student Spotlight: Lydia Worrall-Edie

During our recent interview with Lydia Worrall-Edie, she shared her decision to attend PWSC and become a resident assistant (RA). Lydia's interest in PWSC started after taking a backcountry skiing class at UAA taught by TJ Miller, who also teaches at PWSC. TJ recommended that she speak with Dr. Benjamin Rush, assistant professor of outdoor leadership, which sparked her interest in attending PWSC.

Alaska’s Maritime Education Consortium and Yamaha train outboard motor instructors

The Alaska Maritime Education Consortium (AMEC), in partnership with Yamaha, hosted a Yamaha Marine Maintenance Certification Program (MCP) Instructor training in Valdez, Alaska, Aug. 4-10, 2023. Yamaha provided two trainers to deliver the MCP certification to eleven instructors from the communities of Dillingham, Ketchikan, Soldotna, Juneau, Kodiak, Valdez, Kotzebue, Chevak, Kwigillingok, and Quinhagak. The instructors represented school districts, AMEC faculty, and representatives from the Coastal Villages Region Fund.
