PWSC partners with Sound Mental Health, LLC.

PWSC is excited to introduce a unique partnership with Sound Mental Health, LLC, owned and led by Matthew Wadsworth, LCSW, and his dedicated counselors. This partnership is designed to offer a distinct approach to mental health support, providing students, faculty, and staff with essential resources in a safe and supportive environment.

Wadsworth, a clinical social worker, takes a holistic, person-centered approach to mental health. He focuses on meeting clients where they are and helping them find fulfillment in their values rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all solution.

With experience in community mental health settings, Wadsworth believes in addressing mental health at the community level rather than just with individual clients. As part of the partnership with Prince William Sound College, Wadsworth will provide on-campus mental health services and presentations to reduce the stigma of seeking help and provide students and staff with easy access to a clinician.

This proactive, preventative approach to mental health is crucial, as many people don't realize they are struggling until their issues have become severe. Having a trusted clinician available can help identify and address problems early on.

A counselor from the Sound Mental Health team visits our college weekly to lead inclusive group sessions open to all members of our college community. These sessions provide a welcoming space for everyone to share their experiences, connect, and gain valuable mental health tools, reinforcing the value the college places on each community member.

The college is taking proactive steps to promote mental well-being by offering this service. It is a preventative measure to ensure individuals have the support they need to navigate difficulties before they become significant issues. Providing regular access to mental health resources can empower the community to manage their mental health better and maintain a healthy, balanced life.

PWSC is committed to the well-being of its community and recognizes that mental health is essential for success in academic and professional settings. The college is proud to offer this resource and encourages everyone to utilize the weekly group meetings to build resilience and foster a healthier community.
