Each year, PWSC joins the national conversation in honoring April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Action Month (#SAAM2020).
As many schools close their doors and move to distance learning platforms, PWSC’s EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and ETT (Emergency Trauma Technician) instructor, George Keeney is doing what he can to ensure students still get the education they need. The skills students learn in these courses are vital during times like these.
PWSC outdoor leadership student Rodrigo Flores moved here from Fresno, CA, but spent most of his life growing up in Chicago, IL. Rodrigo loves nature and exploring the outdoors and that is what drew him to Valdez and PWSC.
Susan Harding is a retired teacher who is still teaching through the dual-credit program between the College and Cordova High School. In addition to teaching classes, Susan has been the campus coordinator for the PWSC Cordova Extension Site for over 20 years.
Prince William Sound College is pleased to announce the summer 2020 ‘for Teachers’ professional development offerings for Alaska teachers. The ‘for Teachers’ lineup will include courses in technology, environmental science, math, chemistry, and construction. Each “for Teachers” course is based on a one-week summer experience followed by an implementation exercise during the fall.
PWSC Social Media Coordinator Jessica Young is collaborating with outdoor leadership student Daniel Barbero on an internship.
George Keeney is teaching the My Youth Preparedness Initiative at the Valdez High School. Seventeen students are in the final stages of completing this course, which they started in August. George has collaborated with other community members to enrich the students’ learning experience.
Ashley Hicks has faced many challenges in her young life, including dealing with addiction. Ashley hit rock bottom after the birth of her special needs son. Knowing that she needed to turn her life around for herself and her son, Ashley sought help through a residential treatment program. With time and perseverance, she regained her focused, and continued to pursue her education at PWSC. Ashley will be graduating with a degree from PWSC in May.
Haason Scott is an outdoor leadership student. He fell in love with the outdoors in 2015 after he had an internship with a national park.
