Meet the students Mondays: Gabe Hendrix

by Vicki Heisser  |

Originally from East Texas, Gabe Hendrix has lived in Valdez for almost twelve years. During his time in high school, Gabe was interested in science and enjoyed reading. Now as he begins college, he's interested in learning about himself and getting outside of his comfort zone.

When asked why he decided to attend college at PWSC, Gabe shared, “I chose PWSC because it is a local college, I can live at home and it is near my comfort zone. I am going to college for a personal growth experience right now. I am not really someone who goes out and takes a whole bunch of risks or does stuff out of their comfort zone. When you do things that take you out of your current range of experience, you grow as a person. I want to grow as a person and do things that expand my boundaries; I want to stretch myself as far as exploring a new range of experiences.”

Gabe noted the contrast he sees between high school and college: "When I was in high school, I tended to keep to myself and not really do any of the outside stuff. I am looking at this college experience as a chance to put myself out there, to take some risks, and grow as a person."

For Gabe, staying in Valdez and going to PWSC affords him the chance to grow and develop as a person while also staying connected to home.
