Meet Megan Gunderson, PWSC's new information technology technician

by Jessica Young  |

Over the summer, Megan Gunderson joined Prince William Sound College as an information technology specialist.  She is a ‘Coastie Brat’ and grew up all around the country. Her first job was a 3-summer internship in the IT department at United States Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma (California), where she was first mentored in instructional technology, IT Help Desk best practices, and adult training education.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in International Studies from Oklahoma Christian University, Megan started her career in education as a K-12 teacher. She spent ten years teaching in the rural Alaskan communities of Gambell, Atqasuk, and Dillingham.  She also served as an English as a Second Language Teacher in urban Oklahoma City for a few years.

In 2017, Megan earned a Master of Science in Instructional Technology (with a research concentration in online distance education for rural communities) from Fort Hays State University.  She is a Certified Google Educator and Trainer, a National Geographic Certified Educator, Apple Teacher, and former Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert Trainer. Megan also served as an American Representative on Polar Educators International Council, and was selected as the 2017 Oklahoma Christian University Distinguished Alumnus in Teacher Education. She is currently pursuing admission to a PhD program within the University of Alaska system.

In her free time, Megan enjoys reading and writing.  She is the founder and primary author of Raising Connected Kids, a new website about parenting in the digital age.  She also writes guest articles for other popular blogs and is working on a ‘new adult’ fiction novel.

Megan and her husband Aaron (an adult student in the PWSC Millwright program) have two young sons, Caleb and Henry.  They all enjoy playing outside, bike riding, and using technology to connect with people all around the world.
