Occupational Endoresement Certificate programs prepare you for a career in a high-demand industry such as marine mechanic, millwright in petro-chemical & mining, construction, natural resources, and outdoor leadership.

Become certified in:

Marine Service Technology (Boat Mechanic):

  • This OEC equips students with the skills needed for technician-level roles in the maritime industry. Graduates will be prepared to troubleshoot, install, service, and repair a range of marine systems, including engines, plumbing, electrical components, and hull structures. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training, ensuring comprehensive skill development. It can be completed in just one semester through in-person sessions in Valdez, Alaska.

Construction Skills:

  • This OEC is a series of courses that will prepare students for careers in residential or small facility maintenance and repair. Students who complete these courses gain skills to perform interior and exterior tasks including basic carpentry, weatherization, plumbing, and electrical repairs with a focus on safety and developing employability skills. This can be completed in-person in Valdez, Alaska, in one semester.

Millwright:

  • Earn an OEC in Millwright and launch a career with strong prospects in high-demand industries like petrochemical, fishing, and mining. Millwrights are skilled in precision instrumentation, welding, blueprint reading, rotating equipment, generators, rigging, and conveyor systems. They specialize in installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery. This can be completed in-person in Valdez, Alaska, in two semesters.

Natural Resources Technician or Marine Natural Resources Technician:

  • The OEC in Natural Resources Technician or an OEC in Marine Natural Resources Technician provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful employment at the technician level in natural resources through hands-on training and coursework. Students will learn technical skills from content experts for success in this growing field. They will also interact directly with natural resource management organizations that are in need of skilled technician level employees, facilitating a transition from the program to
    employment. Both programs can be completed in-person in Valdez, Alaska, in one semester.

Outdoor Leadership:

  • The Undergraduate Certificate in Outdoor Leadership is a one-year program that develops technical skills and foundational knowledge for careers in tourism, outdoor recreation, and guiding. Valdez, Alaska, offers the perfect setting to learn, with opportunities to ski, hike, and explore right outside the classroom.

Student Housing

The PWSC Valdez Campus offers students fully furnished, apartment-style student housing. Both full-time and part-time students can live in our on-campus housing. Each residence has a laundry facility and lounge on site.
