National Suicide Prevention Month

by Sam Foist-Swart and Jessica Young  |

In honor of September being National Suicide Prevention Month, PWSC is taking part in the national conversations happening this month around suicide prevention.

Resident Assistants, Matt and Silas, recently compiled a photo slideshow to showcase students, staff, and faculty who are raising awareness about #NationalSuicidePreventionWeek2019. The slide show has been on display in the student commons area. View the slide show on YouTube.

If you are looking for a way to get involved, the Providence Valdez Counseling Center is hosting a Suicide Awareness Walk on Friday, September 13, from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. Meet at the PVMC Parking Lot at noon (rain or shine). Followed by a post walk-rememberance ceremony at 12:45 p.m.

If you, or anyone you know, may be struggling with thoughts of suicide, resources are available. Talk with a PWSC staff member and they can connect you to the PWSC Care Team. The team helps provide referrals and support for students, staff, or faculty that may be at risk.

Off-campus resources include the Providence Valdez Counseling Center, Careline Alaska, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and the Veterans Crisis Line.
