After attending the annual Alaska Space Grant Symposium in Anchorage, Katie Bobowski and Dr. Steve Johnson shared the highlights of their recent presentation at the annual symposium hosted by the Alaska Space Grant program in Anchorage. As Principal Investigators (PIs) of the Integrated and Applied Science for Teachers and the Space Math for Teachers programs funded through NASA, they had the opportunity to showcase their projects and connect with other professionals in education and research.
College student Celeste Vena is researching kelp and sustainability in Prince William Sound, Valdez, Alaska. She will present her research at the upcoming First Annual PWSC Environmental Sciences Symposium on Tuesday, May 2, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
We recently had a visit from Roger Mechon, owner of RLM Tech Inc., who taught our millwright program students about the slurry pump. Not only did he go through the entire pump with our students, but he also led them in taking it apart and reassembling it.
Under the guidance of Dr. Amanda Glazier, Sarah Kearns is conducting an independent research project funded by Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council this semester. Her research involves measuring baseline water chemistry at the Valdez Native Tribe (VNT) experimental oyster farm and two other comparative sites, with measurements taken at two different depths at each location every three weeks to track changes over the season.
The PWSC Valdez Archery Club is thrilled to announce the winner of the 10th Annual Vegas in Valdez Archery Top Ten Shootout. This year's $500.00 goes to Paul Rude of Glennallen, a top-performing competitor for many years at the ViVA event. Congratulations, Paul!

This semester, Army non-commissioned officer Lee Burke has joined PWSC as an instructional assistant through the Department of Defense Skillbridge Transition Assistance Program. This program enables active-duty service members to transition out of their units early and work as civilian interns during their final months of service.
