The residence life team adjourns

Adjourning is a stage every team goes through, including PWSC's residence life staff. They share their thoughts as they finish the school year and end an era of working together.

As the end of the semester approaches, we asked Joe Kay and Rodrigo Flores about their Resident Assistant (RA) experiences at PWSC. Joe and Rodrigo joined Sam Foist-Swart, Residence Life Coordinator & Housing Manager, in the fall of 2020. During the schoolyear, they worked hard to create a sense of well-being and community.

Joe shared, “While being an RA during this time had its challenges, it was a great experience. I really enjoyed planning events. Sam is really big on students planning events for students. She encourages you, if you have an idea, to run with it. That approach made it super fun. We did some pretty creative events and got a bunch of the residents outside. I really enjoyed that.”

Rodrigo echoed Joe’s sentiment, “We got to connect; we have a reason to connect with the students and do stuff with them. I liked that the three of us became a team. We supported each other and we built on that. We built on our weaknesses, always working together. “

For Residence Life Coordinator Sam, it was a great experience, too. She shared, "Rodrigo and Joe have been stellar to work with this year! Their sense of adventure, humor, and desire to connect as a staff and with our housing residents has been fun to witness. I've sincerely enjoyed getting to know them both throughout their time at PWSC, first as students who then became staff and are now counted as friends!"
