A local museum and its archives can be great for a conservation of natural resources class. It can help students learn about local biodiversity, historical land use, cultural and indigenous perspectives, conservation initiatives, and environmental policy.
Jane Churchill thoroughly enjoys the Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Natural Resources Technician program and is developing an interest in environmental science. The hands-on activities and networking opportunities with professionals in the field have made the program even more engaging for her. She exclaimed, "I had no idea what to expect, but I am gradually developing a passion for environmental science and the program. Learning in the classroom and applying it in the field is fascinating. We have an excellent opportunity to observe the world around us and connect it to forthcoming issues, which is amazing."
In Dr. Benjamin Rush's KIN A261 Recreation and Leisure in Modern Society course, students explore the global historical and philosophical foundations of leisure and recreation and community-based recreation and hospitality. They gain insight into various career paths in leisure-related services and learn about the key trends and issues facing professionals in the industry.
Dr. Dan O'Connor's Introduction to Kinesiology course prioritizes practical learning and community engagement. He arranges visits to community service agencies promoting health and wellness through physical activity in Valdez.
Chance Carter, a junior in high school, shares his experience in our millwright class. He found out about the program through his mother and was excited by the opportunity to learn about tools and welding.
Originally from Cooper Landing on the Kenai Peninsula, Monica Pearson is now attending PWSC as a dual enrollment student and living in on-campus housing. Pearson is enrolled in PWSC's Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Marine Services Technology.
Joseph Williams has returned to school as a full-time student after a 27-year gap in his education. Joseph is currently enrolled in the OEC Natural Resources Technician program, which also provides credits toward his associate degree in general studies. He aims to become the first person in his family to earn a college degree.
As the new semester starts, PWSC's team of resident assistants (RAs) - Issac Stevens, Mahali Santa Ana, and Lydia Worrall-Edie - along with Dr. Dale Jones, the residence life coordinator, are working diligently to build a vibrant and supportive community on our college campus.

She is thrilled to be a part of the PWSC community and is excited to contribute to the program. Stefanie is a lifelong learner who understands the challenges that returning to school can pose for students. She is always willing to work with them and provide support to help them achieve their goals.
PWSC's program prepares students for the maritime industry with advanced tools, including the Yamaha Diagnostic System for real-time engine monitoring.
