Sarah King is excited to start her studies at Prince William Sound College. She has been admitted into the outdoor leadership program. For Sarah, it was a desire to be “working for the park service” and a yearning “for a more rugged experience in the backcountry” that brought the New Jersey native to Valdez, Alaska.

Laurie Brown is currently attending UAA’s nursing program in Valdez. Originally, she moved to Alaska to work as a river guide, and her love for the outdoors drew her to live near Valdez in the 46-mile neighborhood.

While many high school students are focused on simply completing their classes, Paxton Crum is taking his high school experience a step further. Currently a high school senior, he has spent the last three semesters taking college credit courses as part of the Mat-Su Middle College School, where he can take free college classes through the UAA system. One of the courses he is currently enrolled in is a computer science course through PWSC.
