The 32nd Annual Valdez Theatre Conference is taking place June 8-15 this year. There are great free public performances at the Valdez Civic Center.

On Monday, June 10, at 8:00 p.m., Tony Award winner John Rubinstein (Pippin, Children of a Lesser God) stars as President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Richard Hellison’s Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground, directed by Peter Ellenstein. Adapted from a vast array of General Eisenhower's memoirs, speeches, and letters, this candid and fascinating fictional imagining of Eisenhower finds him at his Pennsylvania farm. Eisenhower looks back on his life - his Kansas upbringing, his decorated Army career, his victories in World War II, and his two terms as President – contemplating the qualities and adversities that make an American President great. “A perfectly cast Rubinstein brings our 34th President back to life.” – L.A. Times. Appropriate for ages 12 and up.

On Thursday, June 13, 8:00 p.m. Joanna Castle Miller’s INFERNA is a courageous and moving play exploring abuse, complicity, and the absurd comedy of being a child. As a young playwright balances the childhood expectations of religion and theatre, she comes to realize the mentors she adores aren't who they appear to be, and neither are the scripts they've passed down to her. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.

On Saturday, June 15, there are two final performances. At 1:00, the Monologue Workshop Final Presentation will feature a fast-paced performance of one-minute solo pieces. It is always an energetic and entertaining whirlwind of a performance. At 2:30, it is followed by the return of The Ten-Minute Play Slam for the first time since 2019. This year features short plays by five of this year’s Play Lab cohort (Erin Dietsche, Seth McNeill, Dante Medema, Tom Moran, and Michael C. O’Day). There will be a lot of laughs in the final presentations of the summer. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.
