Soon-to-Be Graduate Spotlight: Logan Ranger
by V Heisser |
Logan Ranger’s experience at Prince William Sound College (PWSC) began with one program
and soon became much more than he expected.
He first arrived at PWSC in the fall of 2024 to complete the Marine Services Technology
Program, a hands-on experience that sparked his interest in technical trades. While
there, he met Millwright instructor Spencer Heston, who introduced him to the Millwright
program—and Logan was immediately interested. He returned in the spring of 2025 to
complete Millwright 4 and 5, along with 24-hour HAZWOPER training and 10-hour confined
space training, adding valuable industry certifications to his skillset.
Logan comes from a Coast Guard family and spent the last 6–7 years in Kodiak, Alaska,
after living in Valdez for two years. His dad had previously been stationed in Valdez
but was residing in Kodiak when he encouraged Logan to explore PWSC’s technical programs,
knowing his son loved working with his hands. That recommendation led Logan to both
the Marine Tech and Millwright programs—two fields that quickly became the right fit.
When asked about his experience at PWSC, Logan doesn’t hesitate to praise the people
who helped him get here.
He describes the instructors as “really well educated and know what they're talking
about,” adding that they “take the time to work with you,” something he deeply appreciates.
(He also admits that Tasty Tuesdays might be one of his favorite campus perks!)
Looking ahead, Logan has applied for summer internships on the North Slope, as well
as positions at mines, factories, and other North Slope operations. The two-on, two-off
schedule appeals to him—giving him time to work hard while still enjoying long stretches
for travel and adventure.
For anyone considering an entry-level technical program, Logan has simple, heartfelt
advice:
“Do it. The money is nice, but it’s also just really rewarding… taking something that’s
broken, fixing it, and making it run well. Working with your hands is one of the most
satisfying things I’ve done.”
We’re proud of everything Logan has accomplished—and excited to see where his skills
take him next.
