PWSC Graduate Spotlight: Hannah Bogdan

We’re proud to celebrate PWSC graduate Hannah Bogdan, who has been accepted into the highly competitive Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) — an NSF-supported program focused on Arctic research and innovation.

Hannah began her academic journey at Prince William Sound College, where she earned her Associate of Applied Science in Outdoor Leadership and took courses through the Marine Natural Resources Technician (MNRT) program, gaining hands-on experience through field-based learning, mariculture, and environmental research in and around Valdez, Alaska.

She continued building her skills at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) in Sitka, where she earned an Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Alaskan aquaculture, mariculture, and scientific scuba diving. Hannah is currently attending UAS Juneau, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership and a minor in Business Administration.

This spring, Hannah is building on previous PWSC mariculture research in the Valdez area, working alongside researchers and mentors from across Alaska to explore opportunities for future development. Her work will culminate in a presentation at the Alaska Forum on the Environment in Anchorage, February 2–6, 2026.

We love seeing PWSC alumni continue their paths in research and stewardship and bring their learning back to Alaska’s coastal communities. Stories like Hannah’s show what’s possible for PWSC students — during their time here and long after.
Congratulations, Hannah!
