From Valdez to Patagonia: PWSC Grad in the Field

by Vicki Heisser  |

Brayden Stanger, a Natural Resources Technician graduate of PWSC, has spent the past two months in Patagonia, moving between remote field sites and small rural communities, building both scientific skills and a deeper connection to place.

His studies have taken him across Patagonia National Park, from surveying guanacos and ñandús to tracking Magellanic woodpeckers, and beyond to Caleta Tortel for bryophyte research and the San Lorenzo region for geology fieldwork. Between larger expeditions, days are spent in the field collecting data, practicing techniques, and learning to work in some of the world’s most dynamic environments.

But for Brayden, it’s the time spent in homestays with rural families that has stood out most, offering a perspective on the landscape that goes beyond data collection.

This summer, Brayden will return to Middleton Island to work with birds, where he’ll be involved in everything from banding to resighting.
