New Release Spotlight: RR Anthony in The Nights Are Dark Up North - Part of the Prince William Sound Literary Series
by V Heisser |
PWSC is excited to highlight RR Anthony, one of the student authors featured in the
newly published horror anthology The Nights Are Dark Up North.
Anthony developed his story, "Folded Before Genesis," during the fall 2024 ENGL A259
course, a one-credit Short Format Creative Writing class that focuses on a specific
form or topic. Each year, the course explores various genres. In this class, taught
by Dr. Dennis Humphrey, students created original fiction, workshopped their drafts
collaboratively, and learned what it takes to bring a story from concept to publication.
Anthony has always been fascinated by the brutal reality of World War I—an era he
describes as the closest humanity has come to creating “a true hell on earth.” His
project explored a deeper question: What could be even worse?
His story follows a U.S. Army chaplain and a Jewish doctor serving in the final years
of the war. As they care for wounded soldiers, they begin encountering injuries that
make no sense—wounds that clearly weren’t caused by German munitions. Their search
for answers leads them toward something far more terrifying than anything on the battlefield.
The result is a gripping piece of horrific historical fiction that fits perfectly
within the chilling pages of The Nights Are Dark Up North.
