Teachers Train to Bring Yamaha Marine Certification to Alaska Schools
by Vicki Heisser |
Eleven teachers from across Alaska are spending the week at Prince William Sound College
earning Yamaha Outboard Maintenance Certification through Yamaha's Train the Trainer
program.
The training prepares educators to return to their schools and teach Yamaha's maintenance
certification curriculum to their own students. By completing all five certification
modules, participants become qualified to offer the program and certify students in
their districts.
"The teachers are here completing Yamaha's Service Skills Training, which will certify
them to go back to their schools and offer Yamaha's Maintenance Certification Program,"
said PWSC instructor Anthony Gerasch. "When they finish, they'll be able to teach
and certify students in all four Yamaha maintenance modules."
The certification covers a range of outboard engine systems, from portable 9.9 hp
engines to mid-range and larger offshore engines. Participants complete both online
and hands-on training focused on routine maintenance, service procedures, and outboard
engine systems.
All four Yamaha certification modules are now offered as courses through PWSC and
can be taught by participating instructors for dual-credit opportunities in their
communities.
The week also includes place-based learning experiences in Valdez and Prince William
Sound, connecting technical training with Alaska's maritime environment.
PWSC is proud to partner with Yamaha and industry instructors Dan Jedlicka and Scott
Krasienko to help expand marine workforce training opportunities across Alaska.
