A Great Reunion in Talkeetna: Outdoor Leadership Student Internship Visit
by Vicki Heisser |
A recent visit to Talkeetna gave Assistant Professor Benjamin Rush the opportunity to catch up with Outdoor Leadership student Peter Sansbury and renowned mountaineer and Alaska Mountaineering School (AMS) owner Colby Coombs while seeing firsthand how Peter's internship is progressing.
As part of his internship, Peter has been helping with mountaineering courses, supporting logistics, assisting with equipment and operations, and learning what it takes to work in Alaska's outdoor recreation and guiding industry. These hands-on experiences are helping him build the skills and confidence needed for a career in the field.
Peter is completing his Undergraduate Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (OL), a one-year program focused on technical outdoor skills and the foundations of outdoor recreation in professional settings such as tourism, guiding, and outdoor education.
We have a great working relationship with AMS, and Peter is our third student placed in an internship with the school. We love seeing our students put their skills to work and gain real-world experience as they build careers in Alaska's outdoor industry.
These internships provide students with valuable industry connections and practical experience that help bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.
