Marine Services Technology student spotlight: Lars Dickson

by Vicki Heisser  |

Lars Dickson, a marine services technology student at Prince William Sound College (PWSC), is representing the state of Alaska at the SkillsUSA national conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Also in attendance from PWSC is Anthony Gerasch, his SkillsUSA advisor and marine services technology instructor.

Today, Lars excelled in representing himself, PWSC, and the State of Alaska in the SkillsUSA national power equipment competition. Lars competed with other top student technicians from nationwide in hands-on labs and a written test created by the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) and industry sponsors. In addition to the competition, Lars spent the week exploring the massive exposition and attending seminars. He was extended a special invitation to tour the Yamaha North American headquarters and meet their training team in Kennesaw, Georgia.

This past March, Lars Dickson earned an invitation to the SkillsUSA national power equipment competition by placing first at the Alaska SkillsUSA power equipment competition in Fairbanks.

SkillsUSA is well-known for providing outstanding opportunities for students to excel in their respective fields. The organization enriches students' educational and career pathways through practical experiences, mentorship, resources, competitions, and networking.

Instructor Anthony Gerasch first experienced SkillsUSA competitions in college and felt that they were a valuable contribution to his learning. He hopes that by providing similar experiences for his students, they will also gain different perspectives on the industry.

Awesome job, Lars! We are proud of you.
