PWSC student Sarah King is having an exceptionally busy year. Not only is she taking a full load of classes, but her National Parks Service (NPS) internship was extended through this spring.
During her internship, King is learning a lot about the parks service. King shares, “I was able to shadow a meeting for joint federal agencies like BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and U.S Fish & Wildlife for their Lands Bi-Monthly Informational session… I was able to shadow the FY22 Project Review meeting for Wrangell St.-Elias National Park & Preserve (WRST) and get an insight on the upcoming projects for this year. Additionally, I began to compile an outline of ideas for a paper to write regarding land management challenges and visitor use impacts within WRST.”
As she continues to learn more about the parks service through her internship, King is setting her sights on her future career. “My career goals have been evolving since my perspective of park management has broadened to include environmental compliance and team work across divisions. It is immensely important in the park planning process, and I am incredibly grateful to be a part of that. It is awesome to continue to work with my NPS supervisor, Morgan Sobek. She has been such a positive role model for me in the process of discovering my career path.”
