PWSC Open House Scholarship Fundraiser
by Dawson Moore |
Prince William Sound College is hosting the Open House Scholarship Fundraiser on Saturday, May 4, from 11:00 to 2:00 in the parking lot and atrium of the Valdez Campus. Tickets are $20, $10 for twelve-and-under, and include a meal with pulled pork sandwiches, hotdogs, drinks, and sides. There will also be outdoor games.
The college will be showing off two new construction projects. First is a camper/toy-hauler, which was built on the Glennallen campus this spring. This small recreational cabin constructed on a 24-foot trailer is great for hunting and outdoor recreation. The build was a part of the college’s developing Construction Academy, which will help develop the workforce needed locally and across the state.
There is also a locally built “tiny home” with a few more amenities. The tiny home is 164 square feet, 22’x8’, including a sleeper loft. It was constructed using Arctic construction technologies taken from the Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC), to create a highly energy-efficient mini-model home.It includes a restroom with shower, living room, and kitchen. Both of these projects will be sold at auction, at a later date, with proceeds going to support student scholarships.
The event will also include a 1:00 p.m. drone demonstration by Don Bickley. Hi class teaches students how to operate drones legally and safely, and prepares students to get their F.A.A. license. This license qualifies people for numerous careers.
