The influence of mentorship
by V Heisser |
Lysette Doran's transition from student to teacher in the OEC in Marine Services Technology
program highlights her dedication and the power of mentorship. Guided by her instructor,
Anthony Gerasch, she pursued additional certifications and eventually became an adjunct
instructor.
In January, Lysette completed the Yamaha "Train the Trainer" program, allowing her
to teach with enhanced expertise in outboard motor maintenance. In February, she earned
another Yamaha certification focused on drivetrain systems, completing another step
toward becoming a master technician.
This semester, Lysette is teaching courses in drivetrain, plumbing, and electronics,
using her extensive knowledge to provide practical, hands-on instruction. Her journey
started with volunteering and participating in job fairs before she joined the program
as an instructor.
Lysette and Anthony Gerasch will also attend SkillsUSA to support their team and foster
student development in the marine services technology program. Her path exemplifies
how mentorship and continuous learning can enrich personal growth and enhance the
learning experience for others.
