Mike Bowden instructs Construction Academy courses

Mike Bowden recently rejoined PWSC as a Construction Academy instructor. He is an
Alaska State Certified Specialty Contractor with over 25 years of experience in the
industry. Though he didn’t take any shop classes in high school, he did take classes
later on and worked as an apprentice to contractors to gain experience. In 2006, he
obtained his General Contractor License with Residential Endorsement. Since then
he has stepped back the level of license and scope of practice to focus on smaller
jobs with the goal of balancing work and time off.
Bowden’s interest in construction began as a child. "When I was a kid growing up,
I always liked tinkering with things. I like to build things. I learned by making
mistakes, doing things the wrong way, and then I would have to correct my mistakes.
I learned by helping others that needed a second hand.”
This semester, Bowden is excited to continue to help others, this time in the classroom. “I want to teach these classes because I have been in other people's shoes where they don't know where to start or how to do something. So it is nice to be able to share some of the things I know and some of the lessons I have learned.”
