Employee spotlight: Stefanie Tschappat
by Vicki Heisser |
Please join us in welcoming Stefanie Tschappat, the newest Alaska Adult Education program member at the PWSC Cordova campus. She is thrilled to be a part of the PWSC community and is excited to contribute to the program. Stefanie is a lifelong learner who understands the challenges that returning to school can pose for students. She is always willing to work with them and provide support to help them achieve their goals.
Stefanie believes that education has become more diverse, and there are now many ways
to deliver content and personalize learning to fit the needs of each individual.
Stefanie holds a Master's degree in teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast
and an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in Liberal Arts. She majored
in Women's Studies and minored in African Studies. Although Stefanie has never been
to Africa, it's on her bucket list. She believes traveling is one of the best ways
to educate oneself and understand culture.
Stefanie's educational philosophy revolves around inspiring others. In a recent conversation,
she shared a quote by BB King, "The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody
can take it away from you," and expressed her love for learning. Stefanie believes
that teaching is a reciprocal relationship where teachers and students can learn from
each other.
Apart from academics, Stefanie indulges in outdoor activities such as skiing, biking,
fishing, hunting, and water sports. She also loves spending time with family, working
on their homestead in McCarthy, gardening, and tending to the land. Stefanie has four
daughters and claims they are her proudest accomplishments and greatest teachers.
