From Student to Safety Leader: Ryan Wade’s Career in Health & Safety
by V. Heisser |
Ryan Wade graduated from Prince William Sound College in the spring of 2000 with an
associate degree in Safety Management. Just days after finishing his studies, he began
working as a summer hire with Chugach North. Later that same year, he was hired as
an intern with Alyeska Pipeline—and he’s been with the company ever since.
Today, Ryan serves as a TAPS Safety Supervisor, leading a team of professionals who
help ensure the safe transportation of crude oil from Prudhoe Bay to Hinchinbrook.
With over 25 years of experience in health and safety, he has built a career grounded
in continuous growth and professional discipline.
Through PWSC, Ryan said he was able to gain entry into the industry and sees lasting
value in the program:
"It is essential to continuously challenge one’s knowledge, embrace change, and evolve...
Never be apprehensive about failure... use it as an opportunity to learn from mistakes
and demonstrate tenacity."
Since graduating, Ryan has earned multiple certifications from the Board of Certified
Safety Professionals, including the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management
Professional (SMP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety
Technician (CHST), and Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) credentials.
Originally from Sutton, Alaska, Ryan lived in Valdez for almost two decades. Outside
of work, he enjoys riding motorcycles, playing bass guitar, biking, camping, and working
on hobby-grade mechanical projects.
His story reflects the kind of long-term success that can grow from a solid foundation
in safety education and a mindset committed to learning.
