New Outdoor Leadership Students Prepare for Adventure!
by V. Heisser |
Our newest cohort of outdoor leadership students is embarking on the Introduction
to Backpacking in Alaska course, where they will learn the essentials of trip planning and selecting personal,
group, and safety equipment for overnight excursions.
During these trips, students will gain hands-on experience in hazard evaluation, navigation,
and key backpacking skills.
These students are getting an early start, with college beginning on August 25th.
They come from diverse locations, ranging from the continental U.S. to Poland and
beyond! We are excited to welcome such a varied group and look forward to hearing
about their adventures.
This course is led by Dr. Benjamin Rush, assistant professor of outdoor leadership,
along with adjunct and alumnus Issac Stevens. Issac shared: "I'm excited to be a part
of this learning experience for the students! This was my first trip I did as a student
with the program, and now, being here post-graduation, it feels like a full-circle
moment, utilizing everything I've learned from classes over the last two years to
help shape and plan this trip. I hope the trip helps plant the foundation to build
a new group of outdoor leaders for our community and the many places they'll go with
these new learning experiences."
Here’s to a semester full of learning, exploration, and unforgettable outdoor experiences!
