Demonstrations and literature will be available with options for modifications based on ability and interest. Participants can write  goals in their own passport.  During the finale events the self assessments activities and physical challenges will be repeated with the hope that you will see improvements after your 12 weeks of hard work.

    Sponsored Wellness Activities:

Participation in awesome sponsored events is the heart of this program. Many organizations in Valdez provide fun activities that contribute to wellness. We are spotlighting some of these activities and giving them a unique Healthier Valdez stamp.  If you attend the activity they will stamp your passport. Credit and non-credit classes at PWSC are considered sponsored activities.

    Daily Nutrition:

Developing nutrition goals is as simple as incorporating a vegetable into your daily meal plan, cutting out soda or alcohol, or replacing high-calorie desserts with fruit.  Pick a goal that will push you, but is something you can achieve.  Check off squares by keeping daily nutrition goals. You may be surprised at how good you feel by making even small nutritional improvements.

    Daily Exercise:

A habit of regular exercise provides tremendous health benefits. Check off squares in the passport for getting at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. It must be purposeful exercise. Chasing kids, cleaning the house, or walking at various times throughout the day while doing other tasks does not count. Exercise can be performed at a sponsored event, at a H&FC class,  at the H&FC, at home, or anywhere.

    Healthy Commitments:

Commit to one or more healthy habit for 12 weeks  such as not smoking, sleeping 7 hours per night, or wearing your seat belt. Participants can record healthy commitments in their passport during week 1. Record if you were able to keep these healthy habits through to week 12.

All program participants are responsible for obtaining a pre-exercise screening by a physician or other qualified professional before beginning any exercise/physical health routine.
