Jim Pomplun moved to Valdez from Ketchikan, where he lived for 13 years before deciding that he “needed real winters”. Now, Jim works for the City of Valdez and teaches a GIS course at PWSC.

The new resident assistants (RAs) Joe Kay and Rodrigo Flores are each responsible for creating an inviting, inclusive, and safe living environment at PWSC housing. Event planning, programming, and getting students involved are reasons that drew Rodrigo and Joe to become RAs. This year, event planning takes extra care given COVID-19.

Since 2003, Dane Parks has been teaching HAZWOPER classes to commercial fishermen, and he is currently working as an adjunct instructor for Tier III as well as SERVS VOO training. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom.
Learn valuable skills in these upcoming construction classes. Students will also get to bring home a PWSC tool belt, safety glasses, and hard hat.
We had a chance to check in with Morgan Gantz, Park Planner and Compliance Coordinator at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, to learn about her summer working with PWSC intern Joe Kay.
Kira Walters comes from a Coast Guard family. She has lived in so many different places, from Maine to South Carolina to Guam, Virginia, Washington, and even Alaska (when she was a child). Now she is back in Alaska to attend PWSC, while her family is in Honolulu where her younger brother is receiving treatment for leukemia.
In honor of September being National Suicide Prevention Month, PWSC is taking part in the national conversations happening this month around suicide prevention.
