After attending the annual Alaska Space Grant Symposium in Anchorage, Katie Bobowski
and Dr. Steve Johnson shared the highlights of their recent presentation at the annual
symposium hosted by the Alaska Space Grant program in Anchorage. As Principal Investigators
(PIs) of the Integrated and Applied Science for Teachers and the Space Math for Teachers
programs funded through NASA, they had the opportunity to showcase their projects
and connect with other professionals in education and research.
During the presentation, they shared insights on the "for Teachers" programs, which
are based on four pillars: place-based, culturally relevant, content-rich, and standards-based
professional development. They provided details on the history and philosophy of these
programs and shared specific examples of the courses taught during the previous summer.
It was an excellent opportunity to highlight their NASA-funded initiatives' success
and their impact on Alaska teachers' professional development. They also emphasized
the importance of grants in funding their programs.
One of the symposium's key highlights was its networking opportunities. They connected
with fellow researchers and professionals interested in collaborating on professional
development projects to support PWSC programs.
The symposium was a productive and enriching experience, and they are thankful for
the support from the Alaska Space Grant program.
