Financial Aid at PWSC

Eligibility for Federal Aid

To be eligible for federal aid, you must:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen, national, or other eligible non-citizen.
  2. Not be in default on any federal student loan or owe a refund on a federal grant.
  3. Have a valid Social Security number.
  4. Be enrolled or accepted in an eligible degree or certificate program at PWSC.
  5. Have a high school diploma or GED.
  6. Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements according to the University of Alaska’s SAP policy.

If you meet the above criteria, your first step is to complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov.

Applying for Financial Aid

Interested students should contact the University of Alaska Anchorage Office of Financial Aid for assistance on their federal financial aid application. Apply at least two months before the semester starts to ensure your application is processed before classes begin. To apply, follow these steps:

  1. Apply for Admission:
  2. Complete the FAFSA:
    • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov and list UAA’s school code (011462).
    • The University of Alaska Anchorage processes PWSC's financial aid applications, and hold regular virtual FAFSA workshops. To learn more, please visit UAA's Financial Aid webpage.
  3. Apply for Scholarships:
    • PWSC has internal scholarsips available to PWSC students, please visit our scholarship webpage for mor e information. To apply, complete an online scholarship application through Kaleidoscope available in UAOnline

Types of Financial Aid

  • Grants

    Grants are financial aid awards that do not need to be repaid if you meet the academic progress requirements. Learn more about each grant:

    • Federal Pell Grants: For undergraduate students without a prior bachelor’s or graduate degree.
    • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants: For undergraduates attending at least half-time. Priority is given to those with the highest financial need.
    • Federal TEACH Grant: For students planning to become teachers. You must fulfill a service obligation.
    • Alaska Education Grant: A need-based grant from the State of Alaska. Apply early due to limited funding.
  • Loans

    Federal Direct Loans allow students and some parents to borrow money for educational expenses. Accept or decline loans via UAOnline.
