  • Based in Valdez, AK
  • The Yamaha Maintenance Certification Program, Maintenance Training Courses are broken out into four in-person individual modules and one online module that are customizable for each school/area's needs. The five modules include:  
      1. Intro to Outboard Systems (Online-to be completed before camp starts)
      2. Portable 9.9hp engines
      3. Mid-range F30/40 hp
      4. Inline F150hp
      5. V-engine 4.2L 225+HP
  • The modules are an all-in-one training curriculum for technical schools to prepare technicians to successfully complete scheduled basic maintenance tasks for each group. The program is designed to be a customizable training solution to fit class needs. 
  • Teachers will complete all five modules of the Yamaha Outboard Maintenance Certification. All teachers that successfully complete the course will be able to teach and certify students in their district for all five modules. All five modules are now courses offered by PWSC and could be taught by the teacher for dual credit. 

Place-based activities may include:

  • Boat trip on Prince William Sound

 

Dates, Location, and Contact

Dates: June 16-27, 2026 (*2 required Zoom sessions prior to the onsite course. Times/Dates TBD. Approximately 2 hours each.) This course also requires completion of ITOS which is 10 online modules and a final exam, PRIOR to arrival in Valdez for in-person training. 

Grant Funding: Available to Alaska teachers and covers tuition, housing, and partial travel reimbursement. 

Credits: 3 *Grant funding requires students to enroll in the summer course. Students must receive a C or better in the course or they will be responsible for tuition expenses.

  • What to expect
    • Preparation to lead courses in small and marine engine repair
    • Modeling of safe practices and developing a culture of safety
    • Introduction to vocational opportunities available for Marine Engine Technicians
    • Certification to instruct all five Yamaha Maintenance modules
  • What will you get
    • 10 full days of content rich days immersed in classroom and field exercises to deepen teaching pedagogy
    • Teachers will walk away with lesson plans, resources, and tools for how to fit the curriculum into a classroom or virtual learning environment, and examples of place-based lesson planning.
    • All students will develop a place-based lesson plan or unit to use in their own classroom. All of the lesson plans developed will be in a shared drive that will be made available to all students for adaptation and use in their classroom.

Meet The Instructor

Anthony Gerasch

Anthony Gerasch Profile Picture

Anthony is a master certified marine and powersports technician, as well as the assistant professor of Marine Technology at Prince William Sound College. He operates a Marine Service Technology program that trains students and teachers how to service and maintain boats and engine systems. Anthony enjoys working alongside students and finds great value in finding creative ways to help students achieve their individual goals. Anthony has been in the marine and powersports industries since 2014 and continues training and learning every day. He has an AAS degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where he studied Music Education, and two AAS degrees from Minnesota State Community and Technical College, where he studied Marine Engine Technology and Powersports Technology. He also holds certifications from Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude, Polaris, Arctic Cat, Stihl, Briggs & Stratton, and EETC. Outside of work, Anthony enjoys working on his own projects and creating Alaskan memories with his wife and son.
