Small Engines 2.0-Yamaha Maintenance Certification For Teachers
...preparing teachers for small engine instruction.
- Based in Valdez, AK
- Successfully complete the Yamaha Intro to Outboard Systems online prior to attending class
- Teachers will successfully complete and become certified to teach one of the four modules that are part of the Yamaha Maintenance certification program
Place-based activities may include:
- Boat trip on Prince William Sound
Dates, Location, and Contact
Dates: July 20-26, 2025 (*2 required Zoom sessions prior to the onsite course. Times/Dates TBD. Approximately 2 hours each.) This course also requires completion of 10 online modules and a final test PRIOR to arrival in Valdez.
Credits: 3 +1 *Grant funding requires students to enroll in the summer course and a 1-credit fall curriculum implementation course that will be delivered remotely. Students must receive a C or better in both courses or they will be responsible for tuition expenses.

- Preparation to lead courses in small and marine engine repair
- Modeling of safe practices and developing a culture of safety
- Introduction to vocational opportunities available for Marine Engine Technicians
- Instruction that is compliant with the State of Alaska and U.S. Coast Guard regulations
- Certification to instruct one of the four Yamaha Maintenance modules
- What will you get
- A week of content rich days immersed in classroom and field exercises to deepen teaching pedagogy
- Teachers will walk away with lesson plans, resources, and tools for how to fit the curriculum into a classroom or virtual learning environment, and examples of place-based lesson planning.
- All students will develop a place-based lesson plan or unit to use in their own classroom. All of the lesson plans developed will be in a shared drive that will be made available to all students for adaptation and use in their classroom.

Meet The Instructor
Anthony Gerasch
Anthony is a Marine and Powersports Technician as well as a Technical Education Instructor at Prince William Sound College. He created and operates a Marine Service Technology program that trains students how to service and maintain vessels. Anthony recognizes every student arrives with a different perspective and finds great value in helping students achieve their individual goals. Anthony has been in the Marine and Powersports industries since 2014 and continues training and learning every day. He has an AAS degree from the University of Wisconson Eau-Claire where he studied Music Education, and two AAS degrees from Minnesota State Community and Technical College where he studied Marine Engine Technology and Powersports Technology. Outside of work, Anthony enjoys working on his personal vehicle projects and building things like sheds.
