Storytelling group starting at PWSC

If you're interested in sharing your stories, helping others share their stories, or promoting Valdez through the sharing of stories, then this is the group for you!

Prince William Sound College will be hosting an exploratory meeting to gauge interest in starting a storytelling program in Valdez. It will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 17, in the Sugarloaf Learning Hall on the Valdez campus.

The college hosted Rob Prince’s Dark Winter Nights: True Stories from Alaska in October. Eight Valdez residents (including Don Bickley, Linda Brandenburg, Bill Copeland, Larry Kelone, Cathy McVey, Dawson Moore, and Stan Porritt) shared their stories for an audience of over a hundred people at the Civic Center.

The meeting will decide what participants want the group’s purpose to be. Possibilities include providing Valdez residents to tell their stories; recording stories to share via Dark Winter Nights podcast; bringing in guest speakers/storytellers; workshopping stories and learning about the craft. In the end, the group can be whatever the people who show up decide they want it to be.

We hope to see you there! For more information, you can contact Dawson Moore at 834-1614 or dlmoore@alaska.edu.
