Alaska Native Heritage Month

November is Alaska Native Heritage Month! We will be having three events this month in celebration of Alaska’s indigenous people.

Our first event, in partnership with Residence Life, will be a movie screening of “We Breathe Again” on November 13, 2020 at 5:00 pm. Staff and faculty are invited to participate via Zoom for the discussion of the film at 6:00 pm. Megan has so graciously included a tutorial on how to access the film on Kanopy, and you can watch it on your own time or stream it at the same time as our students. Zoom link: https://alaska.zoom.us/j/83693535000

Our second event is in partnership with Corrie Whitmore, and Amber Christensen Fullmer from UAA! We’ll be hosting a Land Acknowledgement Workshop for all students, staff and faculty on November 20 at 10:00 am. The workshop will occur over Zoom, stay tuned for a Google Calendar invite.

Our last and final event will be a short film screening of Ada Blackjack Rising followed by a book discussion on Ada Blackjack: A True Story of Survival in the Arctic. PWSC Student Services has bought three books for students, staff, and faculty and if you wish to participate, please let me know and you can stop by to pick up a copy of the book. The discussion and film screening will take place on November 30, time and Zoom link TBD.
