Program Overview

Prince William Sound College is proud to have a vibrant and growing Industrial Technology program that offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science in two high-demand fields: Millwright and Safety Management. PWSC also offers an Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Millwright. Through a variety of academic and hands-on courses, students gain knowledge and skills that will make them more valuable to future employers.

For students with more focused needs, the Industrial Technology program offers an array of short-term training courses. Frequently offered classes included 40-hour, 24-hour, and 8-hour refresher HAZWOPER; American Red Cross CPR/First Aid; confined space awareness; and DOT flagger. Industrial Technology, Associate of Applied Science

Degree Overview

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Technology provides opportunities for students to learn the information and obtain job skills needed to pursue careers in Safety Management and as a Millwright. The Safety Management and Millwright curriculum pathways were designed to meet training and certification needs of industries across Alaska and to maximize the ability of graduates to find employment in those fields. The Associate of Applied Science degree combines hands-on technical training with comprehensive classroom instruction to deliver the education necessary to be competitive in these industries.

Students focus their studies by selecting one of the following emphasis areas:

  • Millwright
  • Safety Management

Degree Outcomes

Upon completion of an Industrial Technology degree, students will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrate industry recognized safety practices and techniques.
  • Analyze, set-up, and operate industry related equipment to perform job task diligently and productively.
  • Accept responsibility, manage time and resources, and demonstrate a professional attitude when working alone or as a member of a team.
  • Communicate technical information and data orally, in writing, mathematically, and visually.

ITEC A101: Hazwoper 24 Hour; OR ITEC A103: Hazwoper 40 Hour (1.5 – 2 credits)

ITEC A125: Confined Space Awareness (0.5 credits)

ITEC A160: Introduction to Environmental Technology; OR OSH A180: Introduction to Industrial Hygiene (3 – 4 credits)

ITEC A183: Sustainable Construction Practices (3 credits)

ITEC A295: Industrial Technology Internship (6 credits)

OSH A101: Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health (3 credits)

Total Credits: 17 – 18.5

Students may need to complete 6 to 7 additional credits approved by their advisor

A minimum of 60 credits is required for the degree.
